Your Pet Your Home pet taxi transports television star!
Geiko the dog appears on television with presenter Richard Arnold
Local celebrity eight-year-old Japanese Akita appeared on breakfast television show GMTV yesterday, weighing in at 56kg after owner Rona Murphy sent in a picture to the show.
Your Pet Your Home were asked by GMTV to transport dog and owner to their studios for the early morning show. We were, of course, delighted to help. Using our specially adapted Pet Taxi, the big day out to London started at 4am and finished with a relaxed Geiko back in Corby at lunchtime.
Geiko, who is a gentle giant, was on the show as part of its Porky Pet week, which offers owners ways to help their animals get into better shape and improve their health.
Rona said: "Geiko is 10kg overweight at the moment but I’m determined to watch her diet and get the weight down. She had an accident when she was a year old and damaged her front leg and since then I’ve been really protective of her and won't let her run, though she walks about five miles every day, though not very quickly.”
In the end it was Rona's son-in-law Adam Duffy who actually appeared on TV with the dog. He said: "We saw a feature on GMTV about pets and that they were looking for overweight dogs. I just decided to go online and send them details of Geiko. I really wasn't expecting to get a call back but ended up being invited to down to be on the show.
"It was a fabulous experience and we got a lot of good advice from the PDSA senior vet, and got to meet GMTV host Richard Arnold, and TV hosts Ant and Dec who popped into the studios to see her.
It is not the first time Geiko has been selected to appear on the show – last week her picture appeared on the show's prettiest pets section.
She is already a minor celebrity in Corby town centre, with many people recognising her for her Scottish flag harness which she has worn since she was just a puppy.
